Develop Your Character!

"What do you want to be when  you grow up?

"If you can imagine it, you can become it!"

"Free to be You and Me!"

These were the slogans of my youth.  Somehow, the message always seemed that I wasn't yet who I was supposed to be, that the real me was still out there somewhere and if I just worked hard enough, I would find her.  I finally realized that Nope, it was still just gonna be me.  But the question continues to be asked.  Perhaps it isn't enough to be secure on the inside with my own unique gifts and challenges.  To be able to convey who I really am to others is a special talent.  I'm not talking about "dressing for success", another of our cultural anthems, but presenting yourself as the You you most want to be.

On this page, we'll share lots of tips and how-to's for embellishing your Journey School Character and the supplies to do so.  But don't stop with the small canvas.  The skills you practice with the six inch characters easily transfer to your own clothing, home, job, and special bag of tricks!

Embroidery Stitches:

Embroidery is one of the easiest and most effective ways to personalize your Journey School Character.  All you need is heavy thread, embroidery floss, or even yarn and a needle with an eye large enough to pass the thread through.  Wikipedia has a ton of information and instructions.  I've included a few stitches here to get you started.  A warning though - embroidery is addictive!  Many a time, one of my girls has tapped me on the shoulder as I was bent over the little works of art.  "Mom," they'd say, "that one is done."!
