Bring Home a Total Character

***Our lovely friends have all found new homes, stay-tuned as Spring Fever is sure to encourage others to travel ****

This is Bob.  Bob has wings.  He came to us last Spring, a little fuzzy, a little hesitant.  When his wings unfurled, it was the most glorious moment any of had experienced in a long time.  As Autumn starts to color the nights cool, Bob knows it's time to move on.  He's still a little fuzzy and a little hesitant, but he's excited to try his wings.

Ferdinand has some serious attitude.  We've told him there is no future in bull-fighting but he's certain we are wrong.  And to be honest, who are we to keep a good man down.  Especially one dressed as good as this.  He's a bit of Don Quixote, a bit Disco Dan, and ready to take on the world - one bit of bull at a time.

When I was little, I loved the Tall Tale characters better than all else.  Listening to their stories, my spirit would just soar.  Imagine living so large, listening to your own heart and doing exactly what it said.  Imagine never being limited by the limitations of those who told you something was impossible.

Now that I'm grown, I've noticed that Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and John Henry all disappeared in response to the industrialization of pioneering skills.  Although "progress" couldn't break their spirits, it did break their hearts and all faded quietly away in a very un-Tall Tale-ish way.  But wait, my soul cries, I still need heroes.

Looking for heroes can be a very dangerous habit.  I've found more small spirits than I care to admit and, looking back, probably missed the grand souls right in my own backyard.  No matter how much I want to, I can't count on anyone's tall tale to save me.  I can learn from the twists and turns of their story and try out some of their classic moves on my own demons, but my journey can only be walked by me.  Even those who share my space and my time do not share my soul.  They have their own soul stories to fulfill.

We offer here a few of our Total Characters.  May they tickle your funny bone and whisper in your ear and back you up in a fight.  May the help your spirit soar.

We've loved Gladys for a long time but she's got itchy feet.  She says that it's her time, she's being called to a quest beyond our valley.  We will miss her and worry about her but once a woman dies her hair red, there's no going back.  Good Luck Gladys and Godspeed to you.

Virgil is a scholar and a mapmaker.  He can't settle here until he has firmly in his mind what is out there.  Thoughtful and articulate, he blends in to a space, quietly observing, letting the land make its mark upon him so that he can set it down correctly for others to find.
